Why Are Attitudes Important and How to Change Them?

If you are in a place where you want to think about personal growth and generally finding a new way to lead your life, you will discover that one of the first and most effective things that you can change is your attitude! The way you look at things will greatly color what happens to you, and when you want to foster positive change in your life, it is a great way to start. Think about the way that you currently view things and imagine what a change your attitude can make!

The first thing that you need to realize is that pessimistic people are more often right that optimists. When asked to make predictions, people who consider themselves pessimists were more often right. However, though the optimists were more often incorrect in their assessment of things, they generally got out more and got more accomplished. With this in mind, optimists, people with good attitudes, tend to get more done and in general are more happy with their lot than pessimists. Think about your predictions for yourself; have they ever turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy?

When you are looking to change your attitude, think about what you are often down on or dismissive of. For instance, do you often second guess yourself? Are you a person who always thinks that other people don't really like them or hat you are not someone who is especially good at anything? That kind of attitude is detrimental to you in the long run. Instead of saying that you can't do something, why not just try it instead? Make a conscious effort in your mind to force the negativity to be quiet and see how much more you get done.

You also may find that you are someone who gets angry at other people. The thing is, though, that although anger is there for a reason and that you should not stifle the feeling of it, it is also habit forming. If you get used to being angry at how rude people are, you will always be angry and you will find that even smaller things can set you off. When you notice yourself getting angry, ask yourself if it is a habit or if you are genuinely feeling irked. In either case, take a moment to find out why you think this.

Having a good attitude is something that can go a long way towards getting you where you want to go in life, so don't dismiss it. Concentrate on changing the negative aspects and working on the positive!
